Football Recap: Denver Edge Hapless Jets in Defensive Battle
During a low-scoring contest on Sunday, the Denver Broncos clinched a 13-11 win over the winless New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix threw an early scoring strike and kicker Wil Lutz kicked the late decisive three-pointer to secure the ugly win.
Dominant Performance Seals Contest
Despite registering nine sacks against Jets quarterback Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 following conceding a safety in the second half. Interestingly, the Jets could only produce just 82 offensive yards during the entire game.
Nix, who completed 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, led a critical 12-play, 65-yard drive that culminated in Lutz's 27-yard field goal with just over five minutes left.
Record Struggles for Jets Offense
Despite their dismal performance, the Jets maintained possession with a chance to drive for a potential victory. However Fields was sacked on fourth down from the Denver 44 after coach Aaron Glenn chose to attempt the conversion instead of calling on specialist Nick Folk for a difficult kick.
The Jets quarterback had difficulties all game, completing just 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. New York finished with minus-10 net yards passing, the lowest in any game since 1998.
"Our passing game was non-existent," Glenn stated following the game.
